We firmly believe that progress can only come through Sustainable Development. Therefore, at Metaxa Hospitality Group, we take our share of responsibility in the industry we operate: Hospitality.
From the beginning of our Group operation — since 1975 — sustainability has been a conerstone. It is the horizontal constant that penetrates our entire corporate governance over time. On the one hand, we feel that it is our moral duty. On the other hand, we stay ahead of the curve by following global trends for tourist experiences based on sustainability and ecological footprint criteria.
Sustainability is a significant part of our strategic management, including the planning stage, the construction, and operation of our hotels. This includes Food & Beverage, Supply Chain, Building & Reconstruction and chemical substances during the operation of our services.
A case in point is that in 1999, we pioneered by publishing our first hotel report regarding the environmental and social identity of the hotels of the Group.
At Metaxa Hospitality Group, we believe that the values of sustainable development outweigh the costs.
Furthermore, we are keen on conveying this message to millennials, Gen-Z and Gen-x, as well as to new generations of executives, employees, associates.

Metaxa Hospitality Group actively supports the local communities in which its hotels operate by choosing to collaborate with local suppliers and choosing local products for the hotels.
In 2020, the hotel collaborated with 54 local food producers, supporting the economies of Crete and promoting the Cretan gastronomy.68% of the hotel’s suppliers are strategically located in Crete and Greece and 22 major categories of products are sourced in a local and Greek level at an average of 95%. 100% of all Greek desserts, yogurts, cereals, eggs, ice cream and fresh meat that come from the local domestic supply chain.
According to the Global Organization of Tourism, sustainability is “the new normality” for the tourism sector.

Considering the above facts, next step for the Group was to make the transition from the seasonal/ local product to the sustainable product.
In 2021, Metaxa Hospitality Group took an initiative to create a group of sustainable suppliers to train them and create sustainable procurement team.
Metaxa Hospitality Group is the first hotel chain in Greece to filter down its sustainable way of thinking to its suppliers.
The new initiative started in September 2021 and will last for 17 months (till January 2023).
Local Food Experts, a social cooperative company, specializing in building sustainable supply chains, is leading power of this initiative for Metaxa Hospitality Group.
The initiative regards suppliers who are specialized in food and beverage sector. 14 suppliers have decided to participate in this initiative.
Participants will be educated in innovative practices in entrepreneurship, taking into consideration practices for the environment, society, corporate governance, as well as their supplying chain. In the end of the process, they will receive a participation certificate.
