In 2025, Metaxa Hospitality Group celebrates 50 years of successful operation.

1975 – Our journey begins. Nikolaos and Theano Metaxas establish Creta Maris in Hersonissos, the first 5-star hotel in Crete, offering family-friendly hospitality services.
1984 – Silva Maris opens in Hersonissos.
1992 – We establish a Blood Bank at Venizeleio Hospital, a key social initiative that continues to this day.
1994 – Bella Maris opens in Anissaras.
1995 – We inaugurate Candia Maris in Ammoudara along with the Thalasso wellness center.
1998 – A unique cultural contribution: Nikolaos Metaxas donates his one-of-a-kind personal Collection of 2,229 Minoan seal stones to the Greek State and is honored with the Gold Medal of the Academy of Athens.
1999 – We publish our first Sustainability Report – one of the first business groups in Greece to do so.
2000 – Supporting Arts and Culture: Our Fine Arts Competition, run in partnership with the Athens School of Fine Arts since 1997, evolves into the 1st Biennale and continues until 2008.
2000 – Villa Archanes hotel opens.
2000 – We form the Maris Green Team, a volunteer group still active through our hotels’ initiatives.
2001 – We inaugurate the Creta Maris Conference Center, the largest in Crete and one of the biggest in Greece.
2002 – Terra Maris Hotel opens in Hersonissos.
2003 – The Crete Golf Club opens, with our Group as a shareholder.
2004 – We establish Trinity College, a model tourism education institution based in Crete.
2005 – Candia Maris celebrates 10 years of success; the Thalasso center is renovated.
2006 – A unique symposium, “Mikis Theodorakis / The Theory of Universal Harmony”, is held at Creta Maris.
2009 – Creta Maris and Terra Maris merge, creating the Creta Maris Convention & Golf Resort as we know it today.
2009 – Farewell to our founder, Nikolaos Metaxas, who passed away on June 21, leaving a remarkable legacy in Greek hospitality and culture.
2011 – Andreas N. Metaxas becomes CEO, marking a new era of dynamic growth with sustainability at its core.
2012 – Candia Maris partners with TUI MAGIC LIFE and becomes TUI MAGIC LIFE Candia Maris.
2012 – Creta Maris launches the innovative Green Cretan All-Inclusive service model.
2015 – We celebrate 40 years of operation.
2016 – Launch of Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa in Oia, Santorini – our dynamic entry into luxury hospitality.
2019 – From Maris Hotels to Metaxa Hospitality Group: We unveil our new corporate identity and continue to evolve.
2021 – Demonstrating our commitment to sustainable hospitality, we launch the Sustainable Procurement – Action for a Sustainable Future program – a pioneering initiative in the Greek market.
2021 – We introduce the Sustainable Hotel Farming program, building on our long-standing Hotel Gardening practices.
2021 – Named “Greece’s Leading Hospitality Group” by the World Travel Awards – an accolade we proudly hold to this day.
2022 – The Creta Maris Conference Center is renamed “Mikis Theodorakis”, honoring the legendary Greek composer.
2023 – We continue innovating in sustainability, launching Regenerative Agriculture for the Lasithi Plateau and Its People – Toward a Sustainable Food Destination.
2023 – Creta Maris Resort is rebranded and completes a major renovation and upgrade of its services.
2023 – Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa becomes Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas, and we launch Santo Collection Resorts & Villas – a refined collection of sustainable luxury resorts and private villas in Oia, Santorini.
2024 – Continued growth with the opening of the new 5-star Santo Mine Oia Suites and The Villas in Oia – part of the Santo Collection Resorts & Villas.
2025 – We celebrate 50 years of excellence!
